Here are some questions which you may have asked about Hawthorn High School. Read them and try to remember the answers before starting in September.
Q: What do I do if I can’t find my class?
A: Ask any teacher or pupil to help you or go to reception.
Q: If I am worried about something who do I see?
A: Go to your form tutor, Year Tutor or Learning tutor.
Q: What do I do if I am late in the morning?
A: Report to Pupil Reception to get your mark then make your way to your lesson. Always try to be punctual to lesson 1. This starts at 8.30am so be on site at 8.20am and outside your classroom at 8.25am.
Q: What to do if I am absent?
A: Ask someone at home to let us know on the first day
Ask your parent/guardian to complete the absence note and show this to your Form Tutor when you return.
Make sure you copy up all the work which you have missed as soon as possible.
Q: If I’m going on holiday?
A: We do not authorise holidays during term time. It is the Local Authority Policy to issue fixed penalty fines for parents who take their children on holiday during term time.
Q: How much homework will I get?
A: You may get two or three different homework’s set each day but usually you don’t need to spend more than twenty minutes on each subject. You will get more homework as you get older. Homework is set online via ‘Show My Homework’. You and your parents will be issued a login and password to access the account in the first week of school.
Q: What should I do if I feel unwell?
A: If you feel unwell in class tell your teacher and ask permission to go to reception. If unwell at lunchtime, go to Pupil Reception and report to Mrs Hobby or find Mrs. Jakeman.
Q: What do I do if I have lost my coat?
A: If your name is on your coat it can be easily returned to you. Reception keeps some lost property and coats are also put on pegs by the toilets next to the canteen.
