Free School Meals -EMA

Am I entitled to free school meals?

In order to qualify for FSM, claimant must be in receipt of one of the Following Benefits:

Income Support,

Income based Jobseekers Allowance,

Guarantee Pension Credit, Employment + Support Allowance (Income Related)

Child Tax Credit only with an annual income not exceeding £16,190

Support as an Asylum Seeker under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

Universal Credit

Young people who receive Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance in their own right are also entitled to receive free school meals.

N.B:- Anyone receiving Working Tax Credit does not qualify for free school meals.


If you have been accepted or are thinking of joining the 6th form next year you may be entitled to EMA.  This is a weekly payment of £30 to young people aged 16 or over who are continuing their studies.  

You may be entitled to these payments if: You are an only child and your household income is not above £20,817, or if you have brothers or sisters, your weekly income is not above £23,077.
