OUR INTENT
At Hawthorn High School, we are committed to providing high quality educational opportunities for our community. Our vision is based on the belief that a rich and knowledge led curriculum is a vital component of life. We nurture academic success alongside creativity and imagination throughout the school curriculum to help learners to secure the knowledge, skills and personal qualities they will need for future success. Hawthorn High School is built on and driven by core values and we are committed to enabling all of our learners to become:

Key Stage 3 (Y7 – Y9)
Curriculum Wales 2022: We are currently piloting our approaches to the New Curriculum for Wales in Year 7 (View the Year 7 Curriculum)
Core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Welsh
Non-core subjects: Humanities, Expressive Arts, ICT, Design Technology, French, PE and PSE
Key Stage 4 (Y10 – Y11)
We offer a broad range of relevant academic and vocational subjects leading to Level 1 and Level 2 external qualifications.
Compulsory subjects in KS4: English, Mathematics (including Numeracy), Science, Welsh, RS, PE and the Welsh Baccalaureate.
At Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form Y12/13)
We operate a partnership consortium arrangement with Pontypridd High School in order to offer a broad range of academic and vocational courses leading to external qualifications at Level 3. This enables pupils to select subjects across both schools that meet their needs so they can progress onto the next stage of their learning journey or into their chosen career. In addition all pupils follow the Welsh Baccalaurate to complement their selected Level 3 qualifications.
