A Level Results 2017

Hawthorn High School sixth-form students and their teachers are celebrating another outstanding set of A Level results.  We are delighted to report that for the second consecutive year 100% of our students achieved the Level 3 threshold (a 12% improvement on the figure three years ago).  Performance was strong across a wide spectrum of subjects and students entered for the graded Welsh Baccalaureate achieved excellent results with 100% of entries achieving a Grade C or above.

Almost all students have earned a place at their chosen Universities but especially worthy of note amongst many outstanding performances were those of Morgan Cronin who achieved 2 A* and 2 A grades and has embarked upon her studies at the prestigious Yale University in the United States.  Bethan Lisles will be reading Physics with Medical Physics at Cardiff University, Jennifer McGrath will be reading Modern History and Politics at Cardiff University and  Saleem Domun reading Accounting and Finance at the University of Bristol.

Headteacher Jason Hicks said “We are very proud of the continuing success of our students in the Sixth Form and we are especially delighted this year that so many of them have achieved the results that they required to attend the Universities of their choice.  This is testament to the hard work of staff and students alike over the duration of their studies.  Our work within the Pontypridd Sixth Form partnership (especially with the University of South Wales) and very significant improvements at GCSE at the school in recent years leaves even more students well placed to follow in their footsteps.  Sixth Form facilities at the school will be the best they have ever been for our new intake in September.”

The school wishes all Year 13 students the very best for their future and is sure that they will return to tell us of their adventures when their studies permit. Applications for enrolment in the Sixth Form can be made when the school reopens in September.
