GCSE Results 2016

Record breaking results…

Following on from an excellent set of A Level results, Hawthorn High School is delighted with the performance of its pupils at GCSE where the percentage achieving  5A* - C grades or more was 96% (the best set of GCSE passes in the school’s history).  Over 61% students achieved at least 5 good GCSEs including English and Mathematics which represents a 21% increase in the last two years and is significantly above the Welsh national average.  For the third consecutive year results in both GCSE English and Maths were the highest they have ever been at the school and again significantly exceeded national averages.  67% of the year group achieved a C grade or better in English and 64% in Mathematics.

Of particular note amongst an excellent set of results were those of Katie Waits who achieved 12 A*/A grades; Benjamin Lam who was awarded 10 A*/A grades and Atiah Akhtar, Lauryn Davies, Clara Jenkins, Cerian Garnish, Callum Johnson, Penny Walsh, Calista Davies, Ashley Dorsett-Morgan and Carys Durham.  Applications for the School’s Sixth Form have increased significantly and the school looks forward to welcoming back so many A Level students in September on the back of such an impressive set of GCSE results.

Headteacher Mr Jason Hicks said “I am delighted by the success at both GCSE and A Level and the results are a credit to all the hard work of staff and students alike.  These are the best GCSE results ever at Hawthorn High School in a whole range of subjects including English and Maths and we are immensely proud of the young people who have achieved them. To see our results improve for the third consecutive year by 12% is a huge achievement and we are close to a 100% improvement in performance at GCSE by comparison with results four years ago.  This has been a real team effort between staff, parents, pupils and governors and I would like to thank them all for their hard work and support.  The school continues to move from strength to strength in its efforts to provide health, happiness and success for all the young people in its care.”
