A Level Results 2016

Hawthorn High School sixth-form students and their teachers are celebrating another outstanding set of A Level results.  We are delighted to report that 100% of our students achieved the level 3 threshold (a 12% improvement on the figure two years ago).  Performance was strong across a wide spectrum of subjects and students entered for the graded Welsh Baccalaureate achieved superb results with 100% of entries achieving a grade C or above with 25% of entries achieving a grade A*.

Almost all students have earned a place at their chosen universities but especially worthy of note amongst many outstanding performances were those of Hannah Price who achieved 2 A* and an A grade who is going on to study Architecture are Cardiff University.  Car Lum Sum will be reading Business Management at Cardiff University, Lewis Thomas will be reading Physics at Exeter, Toby Davies reading Geography at Southampton and Kane Hocking who secured an unconditional offer from Coventry to study Journalism.  Huw Thomas leaves us to take up a prestigious engineering apprenticeship at GE.

Headteacher Jason Hicks said “We are very proud of the continuing success of our students in the Sixth Form and we are especially delighted this year that so many of them have achieved the results that they required to attend the Universities of their choice.  This is testament to the hard work of staff and students alike over the duration of their studies.  The on-going success of the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate at the school leaves me more confident than ever that they are fully prepared for the challenges that will be provided by higher education and the continuing and very significant improvements at GCSE at the school in recent years leaves more students well placed to follow in their footsteps.  With the numerous site and sports development projects that are taking place this summer the future looks very bright for pupils of all ages at Hawthorn.”
